It took some time to arrive but summer is here! Perfect time for iced tea and lemonade! We are getting some sweltering days and I’ve definitely been reaching for the thirst quenchers on these hot days.
Water and fruit juices are in rotation, but on a recent family outing to the local zoo, I brew up a batch of homemade iced tea lemonade for the journey. Given the COVID situation, patrons aren’t allowed to traipse through the zoo. Instead you check out the animals from the comfort of your car. We made the most of the experience by packing a picnic basket with some of my family’s favourites. These included cheesepaste sandwiches, party mix, fried chicken and iced tea!
I used the Celestial Seasonings brand for my iced tea lemonade concoction. The sampler pack had a good variety of fruit teas I was eager to try.
The result is this fabulous thirst quencher with its sweet notes of black cherry, blueberry and a hint of citrus to really bring out the fruity flavours. Hubby and son have been requesting it ever since and I’m happy to oblige because frankly I love it too!
The drink itself is not overly sweet (super sweet drinks are one of my pet peeves). If you prefer sweeter drinks, you may wish to add 3/4 cup of sugar instead of 1/2 cup.
This drink is best when served really cold. I pop my jug in the freezer until it starts to develop a fragile layer of ice on the top and then remove it to the fridge. When ready, serve over ice and garnish with fresh berries, lemon and mint. It is sure to quench any thirst.
