We respect your privacy and we are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect about you and why, what we do with that information, and how we handle that information when you visit the Site.

Personal Identification Information

Personal Identification Information is only collected if you volunteer that information to us.  We do not sell, trade or distribute your personal information to others unless required by law.   We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal identification information regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above. You may volunteer personal identification information such as name and email address on the Site in various ways including creating a user profile, posting comments, subscribing to a newsletter or submitting a contact form.

If you choose to create a user profile on our Site, we will store your username, but your password will never be visible in our records.

If you choose to subscribe to our email newsletter, you have the option of providing your name and email address.  This information is collected and stored within our email marketing software, Mailchimp. You can read more about Mailchimp’s Privacy Policy here.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the Site, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the Site can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Non-personal identification information may include your IP address, browser name and version, type of computer, operating system and the Internet service provider utilized, referring website, pages you viewed, dates and times you accessed the Site, time spent on those pages and other statistics.

We also use Google Analytics to help us understand how you use our Site.  Google Analytics tracks Site usage and provides information such as referring websites and user actions on the Site. You can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information in the Google Privacy Policy. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Browser Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that is commonly used as an anonymous unique identifier. These are sent to your browser from the website that you visit and are stored on your computer’s hard drive.

Our Site uses these “cookies” to collect information and to provide a more personalized experience on the Site. We may use session cookies (which expire when you close your browser), or persistent cookies which stay on your browser until deleted. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies, and know when a cookie is being sent to your computer. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Our Site may contain links to other websites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Children’s Privacy

Our Site does not address anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 16. In the case we discover that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can perform the necessary actions.

Third Party Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Site; to perform Site-related services; or to assist us in analyzing how our Site is used.

We want to inform our Site users that these third parties have access to your Personal Information. Each third-party service provider’s use of your personal information is dictated by their respective privacy policies. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

We use third party advertising networks and companies to display ads on our Site.  These ads may contain cookies that collect information to facilitate serving ads.  This information is collected by the advertising networks and companies themselves.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
